| タイトル | The People's Education and the Press in the West: A Study of the Influence of Politics on the Presentation of Chinese Education in American Print Media |
| 内容 | 中国はアメリカに次いで第二位の経済国になったため、その対抗心は今やアメリカに向いている。経済の発展に伴い、中国は2009年、2012年のPISAテストでの結果に代表されるように教育においても大きな進展を遂げた。これより、中国の教育は世界中のジャーナリストや教育者、研究者たちの注目を集めることとなった。本研究は、40年間にわたる米中関係を背景に、両国の政治・経済的関係が、アメリカの新聞によってもたらされた中国の教育に対するイメージにどのような影響を与えているのかを考察している。その結果、イメージの変遷をたどる中で、政治活動がアメリカの新聞における中国の教育に関する描写に大きな影響を与えていることが明らかになった。また、本研究は不確かなメディアの描写に対して警鐘を鳴らすものである。 |
| 講評 | It was a pleasure to work with these students in writing their graduation theses. While all the topics were connected in some way to "globalization, education, and culture," the specific themes of their theses covered several continents, numerous cultures, and an array of challenging issues and questions. My hope is that the students not only found satisfaction in deepening their understanding of their chosen topics, but that they also enjoyed the learning process of researching their topics, critically reading their sources, formulating and organizing their arguments, and eventually writing their papers. Finally, and most importantly, my greatest hope is that the camaraderie and friendship formed through this process will endure, remaining as the ultimate legacy of their years of study. |
